Ekatha aims to support gender and social equality by:

✦ Supporting gender equality

✦ Empowering women to address gender-based violence

✦ Reducing alcoholism among children

✦ Providing legal advice and counselling to women

✦ Strengthening gender-aware leadership and language skills of children so that they can effectively engage in a global world

Ekatha is managed by committed professionals with many years of experience in the development and legal fields. The core members of this Trust include:

❈ Mrs. Padma Pillai (Chairperson)

She has been a very impactful social worker for the past four decades. She was the first Vice-President of Ashreya and Chairman of The Children’s Home (Guild of Service) for several years. Along with a group of men and women, she helped to start the first Bonsai Club in Trivandum.

❈ Ms. Jayasree Prasad (Founder Trustee)

Deeply interested in literature and gender issues, an India Scholar to the Modern Language Association, and a social activist, she retired after a decade of teaching English literature at the University of Kerala.

❈ Ms. Shoba Koshy (Director, Ekatha Board)

Retired as Chief Postmaster General, Kerala Circle, after 32 years of service with the Government of India in different areas of development, she now does a lot of social work. She works with children who have learning disabilities and is an activist against gender-based violence. She recently bagged the Rani Laxmibai Award for Excellence in Public Administration instituted by the Government of Kerala.

❈ Dr. Gita Gopal (Founder Trustee)

Mrs. Gopal took early retirement from the World Bank in Washington DC in 2009 and holds a doctorate in Law from the Harvard Law School. Today, she works with several agencies that support social and economic development.

❈ Dr. Vasantha Nair (Director, Ekatha Board)

She is an endocrinologist with Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. She contributes to the Trust by encouraging its activities on a regular basis.

This group is non-political. Members are only expected to contribute in terms of their time in organising meetings and activities. Ekatha does not solicit funds but works on a small monthly contribution provided by its patrons. Should anyone be interested in providing funds, Ekatha would be happy to identify a beneficiary in need of support and empowerment, to whom such funds may be directly provided. Ekatha will monitor that the funds are utilized for purposes for which they were given and report periodically to the donor on the results.
