❈ May 11, 2013: Painting Competition

Ekatha organized a painting competition for school students in the afternoon of May 11th. The competition took place on the Museum grounds surrounding the Band Stand where Ms. Khyrunnisa A, author of “Howzzat Butterfingers” was the chief guest. The students were divided into three groups and each of them were given a different topic:

✦ Classes 1-5:  My Neighbourhood
✦ Classes 6-8: Oru Jathi, Oru Madom, Oru Devam
✦ Classes 9-12: Gender Equality or Violence Against Women

Ekatha aims to set in motion thought waves across the social spectrum because active involvement of the public is more effective than any legislation. This event was a step in that direction as it provided a platform for young minds to be conscious of these issues.  About 35 children participated. The first prize winners from the three groups were Anit Salu (Nirmala Bhavan), Reshma PD (Bharatiya Vidyala Bhavan), and Gautami (Saraswathy Vidyalaya).  The event included a Quiz competition on the same themes. Ms. Khairunnisa, the author of the Butterfingers series, was the Chief Guest.
